A Message from our President, Dorian DeBarr
2024 was a year of remarkable growth, connection, and opportunity for DeKalb County—a year that has strengthened our community and reaffirmed our commitment to fostering prosperity for all.
I am deeply grateful to our outgoing CEO, Michael Thurmond, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, and the visionary leaders on our Board of Directors for their unwavering support and guidance. Their dedication to building new business opportunities and advancing the quality of life for DeKalb residents has been the foundation of our success. By focusing on collaboration and shared goals, we are building a stronger, more connected community and driving progress that benefits everyone.
As we reflect on the accomplishments of 2024, we are filled with pride and optimism for the future. Initiatives like MADE in DeKalb and the launch of the Industry Ready Pre-Apprenticeship program in collaboration with Georgia Piedmont Technical College have empowered our residents with the skills and training needed to thrive in high-demand industries. These programs are more than just workforce solutions—they are pathways to meaningful careers and economic mobility for individuals and families across our community.
Sustainability remains at the heart of our work at Decide DeKalb. The Lulah Hills Redevelopment project, made possible in part by the Market Square Tax Allocation District, will breathe new life into the area, transforming it into a space that not only drives economic growth but also fosters a sense of community and belonging for all who call DeKalb County home.
As we turn the page to a new chapter, we are energized by the leadership of incoming DeKalb County CEO, Lorraine Cochran-Johnson. With her innovative vision, deep expertise, and passion for serving the community, we are confident she will lead DeKalb County to new heights, building on the legacy of excellence established by CEO Thurmond and driving forward a future filled with opportunity and progress.
As you read through this report, I invite you to reflect on the collective effort and dedication that drive economic development forward. True progress is not achieved quickly or in isolation—it is the result of sustained collaboration, thoughtful planning, and a shared commitment to building a brighter future. At Decide DeKalb, our mission remains steadfast: to cultivate opportunities and partnerships that spark growth, innovation, and prosperity for every corner of our community. Together, we are stepping confidently into a new chapter, one that promises even greater achievements for DeKalb County.
Thank you for your unwavering support and for believing in the vision we are working to bring to life.
Sincerely,
Dorian DeBarr
President
